The University of Wisconsin Madison announced today that they have hired John Trask to lead the Men’s soccer program in 2010.
John Trask talks to his UIC team
“John’s coaching accomplishments and background make him a perfect fit for us,” said Athletic Director Barry Alvarez in a press statement. “He has had tremendous success as a coach on the collegiate level as well as the professional level. His familiarity with the Big Ten as both a player and assistant coach will be a great asset for our team. It’s a pleasure to be able to welcome him back to his native state and into the Badger family.”
The 43-year-old Trask played Big Ten soccer at Indiana University from 1984-1987. He was a graduate assistant coach and assistant coach at Indiana from 1991-1999. He then spent time as assistant coach with the Miami Fusion, DC United, and FC Dallas of MLS from 2001-2004. From 2005-2009 he has been the Men’s head coach of the University of Illinois-Chicago. In his stint at UIC, he compiled a very positive 54-24-26 (.644) record.
“I’m very much looking forward to working with the current team and also reaching out to the recruits that have committed to UW in the coming days,” Trask added. “I’m excited not only to work with Keith Tiemeyer, who will stay on as our top assistant, but also with the UW women’s staff to continue building Wisconsin soccer into an overall tremendous program.”
Trask, who is a native of Milwaukee, said, “As a Wisconsin native, I have a deep appreciation for what has gone into creating this program. I’m looking forward to continuing to build the tradition that great coaches like Bill Reddan and Jim Launder worked so hard to create at Wisconsin.”
