IMS published a story yesterday concerning the US Open Cup and how those that run the tournament make decisions on which venues games are played at and who gets the home field advantage. While most of the information was correct, there was a major bit of misinformation in that article.
Selecting the match-ups and host teams for each of the rounds is NOT done by the Open Cup Committee, but rather by US Soccer staff. The Committee sets the tournament format and puts the policies in place prior to each year’s competition, however it has no active involvement or input in the actual choosing of the hosts in any round of the competition.
A new corrected article will be posted shortly. IMS apologizes for the misinformation.
