Kyle Rote Jr. Honored by National Soccer Hall of Fame

The National Soccer Hall of Fame may not have a permanent home at the moment but there is still an organizational structure.  US Soccer announced on Tuesday that Kyle Rote Jr. was voted in as part of the Class of 2010 on the Veteran ballot.  Thomas Dooley, Preki Radosavljevic, and Builder electee Bruce Arena will join Rote in the 2010 induction ceremony to be held later this summer.

Rote, who played seven seasons in the NASL, was named on more than 60 percent of the ballots. To be eligible for the Hall of Fame as a Veteran, a player must be retired for more than 10 years and either 1) Have played at least 20 full international games for the U.S. Men’s National Team (10 if the games were prior to 1990) or 2) Have played at least five seasons in a first-division professional league in the United States and elected as an all-star at least once.

Rote was the son of the famous football player Kyle Rote Sr. Rote Jr. was born in the US and was rookie of the year in 1973 playing for the Dallas Tornado. He was also the only American to ever win the NASL scoring title, which he won with 10 goals and 10 assists that same year. It was said that Rote was the only American player who ever saw star status in the NASL.
