Majority Of Top Football Leagues Suspended Due To Coronavirus Outbreak

The coronavirus outbreak has now caused the suspension of most top leagues across world football across the last 48 hours.

Italy’s Serie A was the first to go, and as time has gone on, a whole host of other leagues – and sports around the globe – have followed in their footsteps.

The word ‘unprecedented’ has been thrown around more times than we can count over the course of the last few days, and it’s not exactly inaccurate. Nobody, and we mean nobody, knows what kind of trajectory we’re going to be heading on over the course of the next few months.

Bizarre times

Everyone wants to believe that this issue is going to disappear into the darkness and football will be allowed to resume, when in reality, that’s far from the most important thing to worry about right now.

It’s all about doing what we can to stop the spread of the virus so that we can try and get back to a life that resembles normality.

In terms of the football, though, it’s a ‘wait and see’ type of moment for us all. While we’d love to be able to provide everyone with some kind of idea as to how this is all going to turn out, we simply do not have that luxury at this moment in time.

Most leagues have either been suspended until the end of March or the start of April, at which point, these issues will be addressed once again.

We’re all left with a few options when it comes to how these seasons are going to end. For Major League Soccer it should work out, considering they’re just at the start of their campaign.

Outside of that, however, many top leagues across Europe may have to make this season null and void – starting over next season in the process.

Stepping into the unknown

Another suggestion could be for them to host playoffs as and when they’re able to kickstart the season, or, they could mix it up in a big way by having it finish as it is with Liverpool winning the league in England, Bayern Munich in Germany and so on.

These circumstances are not ideal, but again, this isn’t what truly matters.

People who continue to play down the impact that this is going to have on the lives of people around the globe need to wake up and smell the coffee. Now is the time for knuckling down and sorting out what comes next, as opposed to going off on a big tantrum or panic.

There are very few words that can help in any way, but as a suggestion, just be cautious. Listen to the steps that are being suggested by professionals, take the appropriate measures, and look after those around you.
