World Cup roster announced for USA U-20

As the U-20, which is set to get underway on the 23rd of this month in Poland, approaches head coach of Team U.S, Tab Ramos has released the names of those on his roster.

Tab Ramos has compiled an impressive list of players, with many being stars that have gone through the cycle. The advantage with the U-20 is the requirement whereby teams do not have the ability not to release players, and therefore creating strong rosters is an easier accomplishment. While at times, the United States fails to get those players they want, this year it seems it worked out exactly as planned.

The most prevailing question relating to this year’s Team U.S.A roster was if those entrenched or on the cusp with the senior men’s national team would join this roster or play in the Gold Cup this summer. That includes Josh Sargent, Tyler Adams and Timothy Weah. That question was answered after the U.S. federation chose to keep Weah as a surplus and Josh Sargent and Adams for the Gold Cup.

The United States will play their first game against Ukraine on the 24th and then play Nigeria on the 27th and Qatar on the 30th. In 2017, Team U.S won their group and advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to Venezuela, who were the eventual runner’s up. The Qatar team are Concacaf champions and talented, but if they hope to beat the U.S, they will need to understand his tactic and keep control of their talent

U-20 History

The U-20 World Cup is an under 20 male player biennial football world championship. It is held every two years with the first tournament taking place in in Tunisia in1977 and is FIFA organised. Prior to 2005, the tournament was called the FIFA World Youth Championship and consists of 21 tournaments. To date, there have been ten nations who have claimed the title. These include Argentina (6 titles), Brazil (5 titles), Portugal (2), Serbia (2) and Germany, Ghana, Russia Spain, England and France each winning once.

The same tournament for women’s teams began in 2002. The Women’s World Championship was, initially, restricted to those under the age of 19 however that was amended to under 20 in 2006. Similar to the men’s, there have been nine nations to have claimed the women’s title including Canada (2), while Thailand, Russia, Chile, Germany, Japan, France and Papua New Guinea have each won once.
