San Antonio Scorpions goalkeeper Daryl Sattler wins the 2012 NASL Golden Glove award.
The NASL announced on Wednesday that Daryl Sattler, goalkeeper for the San Antonio Scorpions, has won the Golden Glove award for the 2012 season. The 32-year-old Sattler tore his ACL early in the 2011 season while playing for the Tampa Bay Rowdies and then was later released by the club. He joined the Scorpions in the offseason and had an outstanding season in his recovery. He wins the coveted NASL award for having the best Goals Against Average during the regular season which was a 0.79 GAA while logging 2,151 minutes.
“I would like to thank my teammates and coaches as well as the organization and the city of San Antonio for their amazing support,” said Sattler after getting official word of the achievement. “It’s an honor to receive this award and I will proudly share it with the boys since this really is a team award.”
Sattler also had the most shutouts in the NASL this season with 13 and posted a 13-6-5 (W-T-L) record in his 24 starts.
Scorpions head coach Tim Hankinson remarked, “Daryl’s performance kept us in many games this year and that strength came as a leader, guiding an outstanding defensive effort as a team this season.”
Sattler’s former Tampa Bay teammate Jeff Attinella finished second in the league with a 1.06 GAA followed closely by Puerto Rico Islanders net-minder Richard Martin who recorded a 1.07 GAA.
The league also announced on Thursday that the Tampa Bay Rowdies won the Fair Play Award for the 2012 season. The honor is given annually to the team that compiles the best discipline record during the regular season. The winner of the award is determined by a weighted accumulation of yellow cards and red cards throughout the regular season. This is the second consecutive year that Tampa Bay has earned this award. The Minnesota Stars FC were runner-up.
