San Antonio Scorpions’ Pablo Campos, 2012 NASL Golden Boot winner.
The NASL officially announced today that San Antonio Scorpions super striker Pablo Campos has received the Golden Boot honors for most prolific goal scorer in the 2012 NASL regular season. The 29-year-old Brazilian international finished the season with 20 goals with the final tally coming in the Scorpions’ 1-1 tie with the Minnesota Stars in the team’s final regular season match on Sunday evening. San Antonio also celebrated their NASL Regular Season Championship after Sunday’s match, an honor they had already won before Sunday’s match, after the Tampa Bay Rowdies failed to win on Saturday evening and therefore handing the title to the 13-7-8 Scorpions.
On the way to his 20-goal season, Campos was named NASL Offensive Player of the Week on five occasions and won Player of Month honors in July. He is first on the NASL’s career scoring list with 37 goals in all competitions, including NASL Playoffs and the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
Campos’ 20 goals ties the NASL record for most goals in a season which was set last year by his former teammate Etienne Babara. Barbara and Campos finished the season #1 and #2 respectively in goal scoring when they were both members of the Carolina RailHawks. Campos finished his season last year with 12 goal and 2 assists. He moved to the first-year Scorpions in January.
“I would like to thank and dedicate this award to my whole family. They were the reason why I could stay focused and motivated the whole way. This award wouldn’t be possible without my teammates and coaches,” said Campos.
Scorpions head coach Tim Hankinson remarked, “”Pablo was a game-winner for us this year. Whether it was through great individual effort or playing off services from his teammates, he showed that he is a true goal-scorer.”
Carolina RailHawks forward Nick Zimmerman finished second in the league with 15 goals followed by Fort Lauderdale midfielder Mark Anderson who recorded 12 goals for the season.
