Puerto Rico Islanders and Antigua Barracuda FC To Compete For CFU Club Championship

With little turnaround time after their scheduled league clashes this weekend, the Puerto Rico Islanders FC (NASL) and Antigua Barracuda FC (USL PRO) will both head to Trinidad to compete in the final round of this year’s Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship. At stake are three CONCACAF Champions League berths.

The Islanders are the current CFU club champions and are attempting to win the Caribbean crown for a third consecutive year.

Barracuda FC are owned by the newly-elected CFU president Gordon Derrick and are currently in their second USL PRO campaign. The club is the cornerstone for the Antigua and Barbuda National Team currently involved in CONCACAF World Cup Qualification.

The semifinal round in Marabella will also include local sides, W Connection and Caledonia AIA.

Barracuda will face Caledonia in their semifinal tie; the Islanders will face off with W Connection.

The winners of the semifinal ties are guaranteed passage to the Champions League and will play for the Caribbean Federation’s highest club honor.

The two semifinal round losers will face each other for the third and final Champions League berth.
