Wolves Need To Banish Stereotypes Against Fulham

For those of you who happen to have been living under a rock for the last nine months, the Mexican sensation has been an absolute revelation for Wolverhampton Wanderers in what has been a phenomenal first season back in the Premier League. Raul’s trickery, showmanship and finishing abilities have captured the hearts of Wolves fans around the world, and he isn’t the only one.

Seize the day

This entire squad has been able to produce something special, and with just a few games remaining, they’ve got a great chance to take things to a whole new level.

As reported by BBC, Nuno’s men will be going one on one with Fulham this weekend in a game that could see them secure seventh place. During most other seasons a seventh place finish wouldn’t be all too much to shout about for the common team, but when you consider that Wolves are a newly promoted side, it becomes all the more exciting.

Oh, and did we mention that finishing seventh gives you a chance of qualifying for the Europa League next season? Because it does. As long as Wolves keep up their end of the bargain, all that would need to happen is Manchester City beat Watford in the FA Cup final to ensure the final Europa League spot is delegated to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.

Of course, Wolves fans will be well aware of the fact that they don’t tend to do things the hard way.

In a funny turn of events, you could probably argue that Wolves fans would rather this game be against one of the top six sides in the division as opposed to Fulham. Why? Because they’ve been the Robin Hood of the Premier League over the last nine months: they’ve taken from the rich (top six) and given to the poor (dropped points against relegation strugglers).

The Cottagers are no different, and despite the fact that their relegation to the Championship has been confirmed, they’re still putting up a fight after registering three back-to-back-to-back Premier League victories.

Wolves’ seventh spot finish won’t be confirmed unless other results also go their way this weekend, but the most important thing for them is going to be that they focus on their own task at hand. It’s time to forget about the heartbreak of Wembley and forget about the claims that their squad isn’t big enough for the Europa League, because you can’t wait around for these opportunities to ‘hopefully’ come around again.
