Build Vincent Kompany A Statue Immediately

The rise of Manchester City over the course of the last decade or so has been pretty remarkable to watch – regardless of whether or not you agree with the amount they’ve been spending. They went from being mid-table fodder to becoming multi-time Premier League champions, and that’s quite the achievement.

There are plenty of reasons as to why they’ve been able to get to where they’re at today, but to be honest, we aren’t here to talk about the club as a whole. Instead, we’re here to talk about a man who has single-handedly been able to drag this club up and out of the mud more times than we can count.

The man, the myth, the legend

We are, of course, referring to Vincent Kompany. The Belgian defender has been here through thick and thin, dating back to the days when he was nothing more than a youngster with a lot of potential. Over the years he has suffered setback after setback in the form of crucial injuries, and yet through it all, his passion and determination has never been in a state of decline.

Instead, he’s been the ‘Captain Marvel’ as described by Martin Tyler last night, and there are a lot of reasons as to why he has that kind of title. It’s partly down to the fact that he’s been an absolute rock at the back for years now, but in addition to that, he can provide his team with the kind of leadership that you just don’t get these days.

The reason we’re talking about him on today of all days if, of course, because of what he was able to produce last night. As reported by BBC, City were drawing 0-0 with Leicester after 69 minutes and were seemingly heading for a pretty disappointing result. Then, out of nowhere, Vincent popped up with the kind of goal that will be talked about for years upon years to come at the Etihad.

Then, as seen on Twitter, the 33 year old had one very simple and very clear message for his team: just keep going.

You don’t need anything more or anything less than that, because when you’re a leader, just knowing that you are going to be there to guide the team forward is enough. This man cares about Manchester City Football Club more than most people probably know, and that’s why he has been there and done it in these type of situations so many times before.

Finishing the job

We all know that this is probably going to be for nothing unless City can overcome Brighton & Hove Albion, but at this stage, it just seems academic. Liverpool have done everything they can to force this title race to the final day of the season, and they’ve managed it. Still, it just doesn’t feel as if it’s going to be enough – especially after a strike like that.

We’re excited to see where things develop from here, but in truth, all we want to see at the Etihad is a statue of Vincent for the many generations to come.
