Montreal Forward Ali Gerba and goalkeeper Bill Gaudette were both named on Monday Players of the Week in the North American Soccer League, following the Impact’s 5-0 shutout win on Sunday night in Edmonton.
Miami, Florida – 5/2/11
Gerba was named Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals
against FC Edmonton. The Impact striker registered his first two goals
of the season in the first half. He scored more than one goal in a
regular season game for the 7th time of his career and reached the
50-point mark, now ranking 7th in all-time leading scorers in team
history.
Gaudette earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor after recording his second shutout of the season. He made seven saves and faced 11 shots versus FC Edmonton. The Impact has not allowed a goal in the last 235 minutes of regular season play.
“Ali (Gerba) played well on Sunday night. Even though he hadn’t scored in the first games of the season, he stayed calmed and focused. He was rewarded during the last game. Bill (Gaudette) is a goalkeeper who is growing with us at the moment and we can see the progression. He made key saves against Edmonton, combined with good work from the defense in front of him. Those honors are great for the club and for the players’ confidence,” said Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos.
