The voters have spoken and the San Antonio Scorpions now have a logo. Voters were originally given three choices after many other logos were pared down to the final three.
The logo chosen features a crest with the words San Antonio Scorpions FC, a star representing the Lone Star State of Texas and a illustrated scorpion pinching a black and white soccer ball.
The contest drew over 2,000 votes and the wining design was created by David Gallardo of Converse.
“Our logo captures what we had hoped for all along – a design that reflects the toughness and tenacity of scorpions native to South Texas,” said Gordon Hartman, owner of the Scorpions who are scheduled to play in the North American Soccer League in 2012. “Soon we’ll ask fans to help select a uniform for the Scorpions.”
Scorpions officials will collaborate with Nike Inc., recently announced as a major team sponsor, on coming up with three uniform designs which the fans will also vote on. That voting will begin sometime in May.
While the the second of the three designs was chosen, those commenting at IMS seem to choose design number one when the designs were originally posted.
Another design seen on several discussion boards and garnering much positive response was never entered in the contest.
