Montreal Impact Reveal Stadium Expansion Plans for 2012 MLS Season

The Montreal Impact announced on Thursday their plans to expand Saputo Stadium for their 2012 MLS season. The stadium plan will add 7,000 more seats and will take the stadium from 13,034 to 20,341. They will also add a cantilever roof and add more corporate boxes bringing the total to 40.

3,500 seats will be added in a new West grandstand, 1,250 additional seats in the Southeast and Southwest grandstands (corners), as well as 1,000 additional seats in the East grandstand.

The plans call for reworking of the two existing entrances with the addition of a new entrance. Concession stands will increase from 27 to 100 locations.

“Today, we are presenting you a major league stadium for a major league city,” declared Joey Saputo, president of the Montreal Impact and Saputo Stadium. “This is a major step forward for soccer in Montreal and Quebec. This stadium will remain the main rallying point for soccer in the province. In 2012, all our season ticket holders will be able to find their place at Saputo Stadium. I would like to thank my family and the Quebec government for their involvement and continued support in this project.”

The Impact also revealed a basic pricing structure for season tickets in 2012. Season tickets will range from $250 to $1250. Currently prices range from $160 to $1400. The club stated that more detailed pricing will be available in the coming months.

“The Saputo Stadium was already beautiful, but now it will be magnificent,” declared Richard Legendre, executive vice president of the Montreal Impact and Saputo Stadium. “The new roof will add to the ambiance, while the stadium’s newfound symmetry will make it even more charming. In the new stadium, every single fan will still have an excellent view of the action on the field.”
