Yaya Toure To The MLS Would Be Huge

This game that we all know and love certainly keeps us guessing, and it does so in the most remarkable ways. When it comes to Major League Soccer that thought process is particularly accurate, because things quite literally change from day to day. One minute you can think things are going pretty badly for the future of the league, and then the next, you hear that a high level superstar is thinking about making his way over.

In this instance the latter is certainly an apt point, with Goal reporting that Yaya Toure is considering the possibility of a move over to the MLS. Toure is widely considered by many to be one of the best midfielders in world football of the last decade or so, and even beyond that. He has turned out for a series of top clubs, although you could argue his most memorable stint was with Premier League champions Manchester City.

A higher power

He showcased the kind of overall talent and ability that has often left many fans and pundits alike wondering the same thing: is he the greatest foreign midfielder to play in the top flight of English football? Patrick Vieira would certainly have something to say about that, but there’s no denying that he’s in the conversation.

When discussing the possibility of a switch to the MLS, or perhaps even Asia, Yaya had the following to say.

“No one can stop me from playing football, I just decided to take important time off for myself and it is very important to carefully weigh the options,” Toure told Canal +.

“It’s not the end or retirement from the game because I believe I can still play on for another two or three years.”

“Why not in the United States, or in the Gulf or in Asia? I will take the time to think and see what I decide next season,” he said.

Dream into reality?

As reported by BBC, too, it doesn’t seem as if retirement is an idea that is frequently on his mind right now. The 35 year old seems to believe that he’s got it in him to go on for at least a few more years, and honestly, why on earth would you doubt him? He has done some remarkable things throughout the course of his career, and it’s not hard to imagine him playing a veteran role in a highly ranked MLS side.

There’s no shortage of clubs that would welcome him with open arms, either, which is always a bonus. He’d be one of the hottest commodities to come over to the league since the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney made the transition over, and even then, we aren’t sure either would have the same impact as the almighty Yaya. It’s not a good idea to assume what’s going to happen one way or the other, but at the same time, it’s difficult not to be curious. Toure is one of the very best to do it in the middle of the park over the last few years, and American fans deserve the right to see that in the flesh.
