None of us can ever truly know what it feels like to be a professional football. As fans and media members, all we can really do is sit back and enjoy the games on a week to week (or even day to day) basis. We have our favourite teams and our favourite players, and for the most part, we enjoy watching a product that showcases the most elite stars within the sport of football.
Of course, there can sometimes be issues and errors that are made from time to time, and there’s no real way to get around that. Everyone makes mistakes, and that’s a part of life. Most of the time the real test is seeing how you bounce back from those mistakes, as you move forward with either your life or career (or, you know, both).
Oh dear, oh dear
As reported by Stuff and CBS Sports, one man who knows all too well what it means to make a mistake on the biggest stage is Daniel Vega. The San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper was left feeling pretty embarrassed this weekend, and if you already know what we’re talking about, then you’ll understand why we’ve been bigging it up so much.
During a 2-2 draw with FC Dallas, the 35 year old Argentine received a pretty tame back pass from his defender. Vega, for some bizarre reason, just seemed to be caught napping as he allowed the ball to roll underneath his foot. Over in the States they seem to take bloopers a lot more seriously than most of the world do, and by ‘take it more seriously’ we mean that they’ll relentlessly mock you for as long as is humanly possible. No, we aren’t exaggerating here.
Salvaging the draw
Thankfully for Vega the team was able to salvage a point from the game, but it could’ve easily been all three if he didn’t make such an overwhelmingly catastrophic error. When it comes down to it he simply tried to control the ball and was unable to do so, but let’s face it, people simply are not going to be that kind to him. They’re going to butcher him for having done this and whilst that is painfully unfair, that’s just the way it is.
You have to accept that these errors are pretty common these days in the world of football, mainly because there seems to be a lack of concentration – especially amongst goalkeepers. They just find themselves not paying attention when it matters the most, and that might be because of the pressure of the situation. Then again, it might be because they’re getting paid very handsome amounts on a weekly basis, so they just don’t care.
That might be a little unfair but we’re only picking out a select few, and to be honest, we don’t know which side of the coin Daniel Vega is on. How could we possibly know? All we can evaluate and assess is what he does on the pitch, and unfortunately for him, that’s not the most flattering point of view right now.
