Wayne Rooney Scores Tremendous MLS Goal

There are many players that have been able to make an impact both in their native country and abroad over the course of football’s illustrious history, but few have been able to do so within the realms of England and the United States. Despite being two English-speaking countries, they’re both very different in their respective approaches to football (or soccer, depending on your personal preference).

However, starting off with the crossover of David Beckham, it felt as if there was a shift occurring when it came to what to expect from this partnership. Since David Beckham, it kind of goes without saying that the biggest name from English football to make the jump over is Wayne Rooney.

What an absolute stunner

Despite not exactly being over the hill, Rooney wasn’t quite able to maintain his spot at the highest level for much longer. As a result he wanted to test himself in a brand new market, and that market wound up being the MLS with DC United.

Ever since arriving in the States it has felt like Rooney has been here all along, and that’s no overstatement. He’s been able to embed himself into the dynamic of the league with ease, guiding DC towards the top of the Eastern Conference in the process.

As reported by talkSPORT and CNN, however, it feels as if his crowning achievement since arriving in America only took place last night.

In the opening 10 minutes of DC United’s game against Orlando City, Wayne Rooney scored one of the greatest goals in the history of Major League Soccer – and that’s no exaggeration. The former Manchester United star was able to spot the goalkeeper off his line, and from over the half-way point of the pitch, he lofted the ball into the net. It wound up being the game winner, as DC United continue to surge towards a place in the playoffs.

Simply the best

It’s one thing to achieve this on a one-off occasion, but this has happened multiple times now for Rooney. He just seems to know how to catch people off guard with everything he does in this game, and we are living for it.

It’s no secret that United have been on a downward spiral as of late, but there’s a very good chance that Rooney’s goal could push them on towards even bigger and better things. Sure, they’ll still be underdogs against a lot of teams both in the Eastern and Western Conferences, but that doesn’t matter. What does matter is that they are one of the most exciting teams to watch right now, and without Wayne, we aren’t so sure that’s the case.

There’s still a long way left to go this season so we don’t want to instantly presume that this is going to be the catalyst behind them winning the MLS Cup, but it’s nice to dream. If nothing else, this serves as a reminder to the masses that quite literally anything is possible at this level of competition.
