Montreal Impact Come On Late to Earn Win Over Seattle Sounders

If not for Saphir Taider scoring twice late during the second half Wednesday night the Montreal Impact would have been adding another loss to their season stats but instead it went home with a 2-1 victory.

It was during a penalty kick that Taider scored his first goal and it was only four minutes later that he added another to help lead the Montreal Impact to a 2-1 win over Seattle. The win was Montreal’s second in the last six matches and the third back-to-back loss for Seattle.

Montreal performed well above the Seattle Sounders, and the stats speak volumes as the Impact outshot Seattle 10-2, had three shots on target and controlled the ball 53%. They also out passed with 535 to 475 and had a higher pass accuracy as well.

Taidsder’s first came after he picked up on a pass from Omar Browne and sent the ball over the head of Stefan Frei from eight yards out to tie the match. His second came after Seattle’s Kelvin Leerdam was hit with a foul and. Saphir Taider is proving a valuable asset for Montreal and is their leading goal scorer.

Seattle were first to score at the 64th minute mark after Victor Cabrera fouled Harry S in the penalty area. That allowed Victor Rodriguez to score from the spot. The last 30 minutes of the match was a wild run considering it was scoreless for the first 60 minutes.

Both Montreal and Seattle were short-handed due to the international break. That saw both teams having to call up support from their respective affiliates in the United Soccer League in order to put together the required fourteen players needed.

That resulted in sixteen year old Danny Leyva, a midfielder, playing his first MLS game when he was sent in at the 82nd minute mark. Seattle was without eight players including Raul Ruidiaz, Cristian Roldan, captain Nicolas Lodeiro, Jordan Morris, Brad Smith, Gustav Svensson, Xavier Arreaga, and Roman Torres.

Montreal also had multiple players off playing with their respective national teams including Samuel Piette, Daniel Lovitz, Jukka Raitala and Zachary Brault-Guillard.

The Montreal Impact on hiatus due to the International break. Montreal will play the Portland Timbers on the 26th, and the Sounders will play the Portland Timbers on the 12th of June.
