Los Angeles Galaxy and Minnesota United Match Ends in Draw

The Minnesota United manage to remain unbeaten on Wednesday after facing off against the Los Angeles Galaxy in Saint Paul, Minnesota after the match ended in a draw.

Wednesday’s game was the second for Minnesota at the new Allianz Field. It was also the first game held at night and saw United keeping Galaxy’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic at bay who went scoreless for the first time in five games. That was a challenge considering that Ibrahimovic has scored six goals in the last four games.

This is the second time Minnesota United saw a match end in a 3-3 draw, the other was while playing against NTCFC at the newest stadium in the MLS. The draw saw Galaxy’s remain unbeaten in its last six games. That is important information to consider for both oddmakers and soccer punters as the MLS season kicks into high gear.

Minnesota’s Miguel Ibarra, who plays midfield played his first game at the new stadium. Last season, Ibarra scored seven goals but was absent in the United’s game against New York due to an injury to his hamstring. Making his debut was well-received but the he was unable to make ground on L.A’s David Bingham, who made only one save last night.

Both the Galaxy and Minnesota had multiple scoring opportunities during the first half but both seemed unable to capitalize on those chances. The first of those for Minnesota came thirty minutes into the first half after a header by Ike Opara went toward the goal but deflected of Los Angeles’s Julian Araujo.

Los Angeles’s best opportunity also came in the first half during a free kick by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However his shot was blocked by the United wall of defenders and ended up going wide. Minnesota had a second scoring opportunity at just past the 60 minute lark while on a breakaway but goaltender David Bingham stopped the shot, which came from only six yards out.

The Los Angeles Galaxy have won four of their eight games against Minnesota United and are scheduled to next play Real Salt Lake on Sunday and will then head to New York to play the New York Red Bulls on the 4th of May. Minnesota United will hit the road and head to Washington to face the D.C. United on Sunday and Seattle on the 4th to face off against the Seattle Sounders.
