Gareth Bale’s Agent Rules Out MLS Switch

Gareth Bale’s future in the world of football has been a topic of great debate for a long time now, with nobody really knowing whether he was going to stay or whether he was going to go. At this stage we still aren’t all too uncertain, but as reported by ESPN and MLS Soccer, one thing we know is that Gareth Bale will not be playing in the MLS.

It was a rumor that seemed to be born out of nothing, really, with a whole lot of MLS fans believing that it was born out of writers from the league who wanted to cause a bit of a stir. Regardless of whether or not that’s the case, his agent has confirmed to ESPN that it simply isn’t going to happen.

False from the start?

In terms of where he would’ve wound up, we would put money on Inter Miami being his preferred destination, both because they’re such a fresh team and because of the connection with David Beckham – who has undoubtedly raised the profile of the new franchise to a whole new level.

Alas, regarding the report itself, the suggestion is that Bale will not only be staying with Real in the January transfer window – but it’s also incredibly unlikely that he’d be moving anywhere else beyond that in the summer transfer window.

We’ve all heard so many different ideas regarding where he could end up, with China seeming pretty likely for a long time. When that got ruled out, though, the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur crept their way back into the race – with Chelsea also appearing on the shortlist of contenders.

Heading back to the Premier League just feels like the most logical decision Bale could make at this stage, because it’s clear to see he isn’t 100% happy with where he’s at right now in Madrid. Still, for whatever reason (probably loads of money), he’s willing to continually extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Focus on the future

He’s 30 years of age now and if he’s going to make a significant jump in his career, it’ll have to be within the next twelve months, you’d have to imagine. Given that one of his biggest attributes has always been his pace, it makes sense to believe that’ll start to deteriorate between now and the time he reaches his mid-30s.

Whatever the case may be it’s good to see the MLS move getting ruled out now before anyone gets their hopes up too high. Yes, it would’ve been fantastic to see a player of his quality join the ranks of the elite in North America, but it never came across as an idea that was overly plausible.

Now, fans can look ahead to the remainder of the off-season and try to work out how things are going to shape up as we gear up for another year of MLS action.

With strong looking squads littered throughout the entire league, there’s a very good reason to believe that literally anything is possible in 2020.
