Diego Alonso Named As First Manager Of Inter Miami

There has been a whole lot of intrigue surrounding David Beckham’s new venture with Inter Miami and their entry into Major League Soccer. There have been speed bumps galore over the course of the last few years, but it certainly seems as if they’re starting to make some significant progress as they prepare themselves for their inaugural campaign.

As reported by BBC and talkSPORT, they’ve taken a big next step in their development by officially naming Diego Alonso as their first ever manager.

The next step

The Uruguayan was most recently in charge of Mexican side Monterrey who sacked him in September, despite the fact that he had been able to guide them to success in the CONCACAF Champions League. He also won the Champions League with Pachuca back in 2017, making him the first man to do so with two different clubs.

He first ventured into management back in 2011 following a 16-year playing career that was certainly full of highs and lows. Now, he’ll be taking on the sort of challenge that most managers would relish as he attempts to build a club from the ground up.

He’ll be having a lot of help and assistance in doing so, most notably from David Beckham, and it’ll be the sort of help that should allow him to expand his horizons and really sink his teeth into the idea of creating a squad under his own set of rules.

“In Diego we found a manager that fits our culture and has a strong desire to build a winning club for our fans. He brings a lot of experience and championship-winning mentality as we begin our drive to be among the best clubs in the Americas,” said Inter Miami CF sporting director Paul McDonough. “We have big aspirations for our club and believe Diego has the right drive, passion and leadership to accomplish our goals.”

Believe in the process

The unpredictability of the MLS has been looked at as a good thing over the years, with many believing that the unpredictability showcases the sort of entertainment factor that you’re going to get upon watching the chaos unfold on a season by season basis.

New franchises can flop and completely mess up in their first season or they could go on to win the MLS Cup altogether. It’s about not overthinking it and it’s about finding a niche for your club that no other team has been able to discover up to this point.

That’s easier said than done and Inter Miami are certainly taking a chance, but then again, every great team has taken a chance at one point or another.

We’re intrigued to see what the immediate future is going to hold for them as they look to bring in a few star players in order to help them get off to a great start in their MLS journey.

Whether or not they’ll be able to mingle around the playoff picture is a different matter entirely, but the potential is certainly there for all to see.
