David Moyes Heading To Beckham’s Inter Miami?

Major League Soccer is a pretty appealing place for all different kinds of people in the world of football right now, from managers to players and beyond. It’s the kind of league that can rehabilitate those who need to try out something different, and in equal measure, it’s a little bit more challenging than most pundits would have you believe.

As reported by talkSPORT and Goal, one man who is particularly interested in the MLS as a future career path is David Moyes. The former Everton and Manchester United boss has been out of a job for a little while now, with many fans questioning when – and if – he’d be returning to management.

The next step

His ill-fated tenure at Old Trafford really damaged his reputation as a world class manager within the beautiful game, and it seems as if it’s going to take quite the push for him to reverse that. Alas, with Inter Miami, David Beckham’s team, being on the verge of entering the league, it seems as if he has his sights set on a very specific goal.

“I watch the MLS quite a bit and it is getting better. I don’t know how many people have seen Atlanta. The soccer team are getting more support than the NFL team.

“We talk about Tottenham’s stadium and that is incredible but wait until you see Atlanta’s stadium, it is unbelievable. So MLS is growing and Miami is a great city. It is something which I would consider as an option.

“Miami has got a bit of magic about it. Atlanta’s training centre is as good as anything in the Premier League and I know Miami are trying to do the same over there. The MLS is an exciting league.”

“My preference would be to be back in the Premier League but if the opportunity came around, I would have to look at it.

“I do know David from our time at Preston so there is a bit of history but we will have to wait and see.”

Rising from the ashes

One of the most intriguing aspects of that short snippet is the fact that he wants to return to the Premier League, because while it may sound harsh, that doesn’t really feel or seem like a realistic possibility for him right now.

We still believe that Moyes is capable of doing some interesting things in English football, but the Premier League may be a step too high for him. There’s absolutely no shame in testing out the waters in the Championship, which many consider to be the most competitive second tier in all of world football.

If he can remain competitive at that level, then it could be a great stepping stone towards a Premier League future. There’s obviously no guarantee one way or the other, but it’s a start.

As for the MLS, he should probably wait and see what Beckham’s plans are with the franchise. Moyes is a steady hand, but we’re not sure how much he’d thrive over there.
