Expansion teams are always exciting to see in Major League Soccer, because they serve as further proof that the league is still so young and still has so much time left to develop and grow. Sure, some fans may not enjoy the fact that new faces are coming on each and every single year (which seems to be the trend now), but in the long run, we still believe it is going to benefit soccer in the United States (and Canada).
As we all know Inter Miami, the team owned by David Beckham, are set to enter the conversation sooner rather than later. As reported by Pro Soccer USA there have been a few concerns and speed bumps along the way, especially in regards to their planned stadium, but it certainly seems like they’re on the verge of turning a corner with everything as their step up their preparations.
If you happen to be a fan of the English and general European stars that have come over to the MLS and found success in recent years, too, then the following report from BBC will actively excite you.
“I think you will see if you look at our young signings, we’ve made substantial investments in them,” said Jorge Mas, one of the co-owners of the team alongside Beckham. “We’re going to couple them with players who have played in Europe who are very well known.
“We’ve looked at some English players. We’re having some conversations with some English players and we anticipate Inter Miami will have some English presence.”
That doesn’t mean he’s one of the best, but some of the things he has been able to do both domestically and for the England national team speak for themselves.
Inter Miami aren’t expected to do all too much in terms of finding success in their first few years of existence, and that’s okay. If they falter then they’re going to have things that they can build on for the future, and if they succeed, they’ll be going above and beyond what many fans had anticipated from them.
We’re really excited to find out what happens next with this franchise, because one way or another, they aren’t going to stay out of the headlines.
