The excitement is building for the new Major League Soccer season, but beyond that, there’s also a great deal of excitement over one of the new boys in town: Inter Miami.
They’re going to be stepping into the fire when they enter the league, as the MLS is already stacked to the brim with teams that are capable of winning the big one.
While that may not be their objective straight away they’ll certainly look at Atlanta United as a shining example of what can be achieved if everything goes perfectly in their debut campaign.
As reported by talkSPORT and AS, however, the focus in the last few days has been on the progress that is being made at Lockhart Stadium as fans down in Miami prepare themselves for another major franchise to hit the city.
The next step
The ground, complete with gorgeous pink seats, will serve as the home of the team for a few years until they move into the 25,000 seater Miami Freedom Park across the city. At that point, Lockhart Stadium will become a training facility.
Everything to do with this new franchise has been state of the art up to this point and, really, we shouldn’t expect anything less from someone like David Beckham.
He has been associated with the MLS ever since he made that jump over to LA Galaxy all those years ago and, in many ways, he was before his time in the way he went about doing that.
He knew that there was a great deal of potential in this league, and he helped it to grow to a level that was previously thought impossible.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup being six years away it still feels like we’re a fair distance off of the next boom period, but even with that being the case, Major League Soccer is in a seriously strong position – regardless of whether Inter Miami succeed immediately or take time to settle.
Building a foundation
They’re also looking to bring in some big names, with Edinson Cavani and Luka Modric both being mentioned as of late. Whether or not the talks are serious is a different matter altogether, but when a man like David Beckham picks up the phone and rings you with an opportunity, you’d be foolish not to answer.
It’s all about building a legacy in the eyes of Beckham, and he’s well on his way to doing just that with a venture that has been many years in the making.
Nobody can say that he isn’t taking a risk, because that’s exactly what this is. You could also describe it as a clear and obvious passion project for him, and given the kind of wealth he’s been able to accumulate over the years, he could’ve easily just sat back and enjoyed his life.
Instead, he’s gone out there and tried to navigate his way through a very different world.
Right now, the excitement regarding Miami’s new position in the world of soccer is one of the top stories in the MLS – and that won’t change anytime soon.
