United States Salvage A Draw Against Uruguay

It’s always difficult to pick yourself up and dust yourself off after a setback, and that can be true in quite literally any walk of life. Alas, in the world of football it can sometimes be even more difficult than usual, because so many factors have to be put together in order to form a successful team, squad, game, or even season.

The USMNT are in a tricky spot right now and pretending like they’re not is kind of pointless. When you’re in this kind of position any positive result is seen as a minor win, no matter how insignificant it may initially seem.

As reported by Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports, the United States was able to secure a 1-1 draw with Uruguay last night despite not really having any, or many, of their top stars available. Could that be a sign that drastic change is needed? We certainly wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case

Not the best, not the worst

The game was played on a baseball ground which, in itself, seemed like a pretty weird and unconventional prospect. In the end it didn’t have too much of an impact on the game, but in terms of fan support, there was certainly a big drop off from when they played (and lost) against local rivals Mexico the other day.

It took until the second half for anyone to even get on the scoresheet, with Brian Rodriguez opening the scoring within the first five minutes of play getting underway. The USMNT, somehow and some way, managed to bring themselves level as Jordan Morris netted an important equaliser with just over ten minutes of regulation time remaining.

The CONCACAF Nations League is set to kick off next month, which should give us a pretty good indication as to where this team is at right now. They were without star players like Pulisic for this game so being able to properly dictate what this result means is going to be difficult, but either way, avoiding a loss is a bonus in itself right now.

Soccer, in general, seems as if it’s never been more popular in the Major League Soccer side of things, but on the international stage that joy and hope stemming from the 2014 FIFA World Cup has pretty much evaporated over the course of the last few years.

One of those games

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is what the eventual aim will be and we are going to say it until we’re blue in the face, because we want to make sure that everyone understands the kind of stakes we’re dealing with when it comes around.

Yes, football aka soccer has never been at the forefront of importance when it comes to the sporting landscape of the United States, but it should be.

The passion that is shown for team events in this country needs to be attached to the most popular sport in the world and it needs to happen now.

There’s a golden generation just waiting to blossom out and make an impact.
