Rape allegations Denied by Neymar

Famed soccer player, Neymar responded to recent allegations that he raped a woman in Paris. Neymar’s response was through social media that showed his accuser sent messages that were friendly after she claimed he raped her and the subsequent arrival of police appearing to investigate at a training session.

Neymar, who plays forward for Paris Saint-Germain arrived in Teresopolis, Brazil by helicopter to join and train with the national team for the Copa America tournament. The tournament is due to begin on the 14th of June, but he did not comment on the investigation or allegations to the media.

In was confirmed by Rio’s police communications unit that Rio de Janeiro agents from its cyber-crimes unit visited Neymar at the training ground to investigate Neymar’s supposed release of a video relating to the allegations but did not provide any details.

The Associated Press on Saturday quoted a Brazilian police report that the accuser, an unidentified Brazilian woman, reported to police that the incident occurred at the Sofitel Paris Arc De Triomphe hotel on the 15th of May at 8:15 pm.

The Sao Paulo state’s Public Security Secretariat, the department responsible for overseeing its state police confirm a registered complaint was made that stated confidentiality reasons pertaining to that report.

However, the accessor claimed she and Neymar communicated via Instagram and that resulted in her being invited to Paris by a Neymar representative and included a hotel being booked for her. It was there that the accessor stated the two engaged in touching before Neymar became aggressive and engaged in sexual intercourse without consent.

While the accused waited to return to Brazil before filing a complaint, due to her stating she was shaken over the incident, Neymar is denying all allegations of rape. Commenting, Neymar stated,

“There was a relationship between a man and a woman between four walls. On the next day, nothing happened. I hope investigators read the messages and see what happened.”

The Saturday Instagram post Neymar posted showed pictures and messages that the soccer star claimed to have received from the complainant. The purpose of the video posted was to support Neymar’s claim that the sexual activity between the two was consensual. The picture of the woman in the post was not confirmed to be the victim or the one who filed the complaint.

Earlier in the week, Neymar agent and father, Neymar da Silva Santos told TV Band that the complainant’s lawyer has been attempting to blackmailed his son. When questioned, the city’s prosecutors’ office and Paris police stated that they had no information pertaining to any blackmail claims.

After a training news conference, Fernandinho, a Brazilian midfielder who plays for Manchester City, stated that he has heard about allegations pertaining to Neymar and was surprised and saddened by them. Fernandinho added,

“I am convinced that the case will be cleared up as quickly as possible. I believe in Neymar’s innocence.”

There have been a number of problems for Neymar recently, both on the pitch and off. A week prior to the accusation of rape he was removed from the Captains spot for Copa America in favour for the more experienced Dani Alves. The reasons for his removal were not mentioned by Coach Tite, but there was pressure to punish him over disciplinary with Paris Saint-Germain.

Those disciplinary issues came about after Paris Saint-Germain failed to win the French Cup in April to Rennes. After the match, Neymar got into a scuffle with a fan and later was critical of his teammates for not listening to him more.
