Manchester City Go For FA Cup Glory Tomorrow

It’s been one of those seasons for Manchester City, and we mean that in a good way. In fact, we kind of mean that in the best way imaginable. Pep Guardiola’s men have been able to tear through their competition on the way to another Premier League title win to go alongside a League Cup triumph, and if it wasn’t for their Champions League exit at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, they could be two games away from an unprecedented quadruple right now.

As it stands, though, they’re on the verge of something that is still pretty special: a domestic treble. As reported by BBC they’ll be taking on Watford this weekend in the FA Cup final, less than a week after they retained the PL title courtesy of a win against Brighton – as summarised here by BBC.

Just too good

There aren’t many teams throughout the history of English football that can claim to have been this good, and you could even extend that to Europe as a whole. Even Liverpool, who reached 97 points and are in the Champions League final, weren’t able to stop them from lifting the Premier League trophy once again this year.

The opposition for them this weekend, as we’ve already mentioned, will be Watford. The Hornets are coming off the back of a pretty strong season in their own right, and for much of it, it looked like they could be in with a chance of qualifying for Europe through their league position. As it turns out they’ll have to do it the hard way against City at Wembley, but that isn’t a challenge they’re going to be afraid of. If anything, in fact, it’s one that they’re probably going to thrive in.

They are heading into this encounter against a Manchester City team that many consider to be unstoppable in the realms of English football, and they just might be right. Guardiola has assembled a squad that is quite literally out of this world, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them replicate the success they’ve had this season in the next.

Financial gain?

People can dismiss this as being nothing more than a result of the money that has been pumped into the club, and whilst we agree with that to an extent, it certainly isn’t the only reason as to why they’ve found so much success. Pep is one of the most talented managers on the face of the planet, and it takes a special kind of man (pun not intended) to find so much success at this level. He has nurtured this team and been able to get the very best out of them, and it really does feel like he’s only just getting started.

That’s us just guessing, of course, but he’s found a home for himself in Manchester, and the blue half of the city has certainly accepted him as one of their own.

Will he be able to complete the fairytale season tomorrow? It seems likely, but for Watford, we should never say never.
