A few weeks back the football world was stunned when Lionel Messi revealed he would be leaving Barcelona. Then, just days later, lightning struck twice as the Argentine sensation made it clear he’d also be heading to Paris Saint-Germain to begin the next chapter in his career.
The following was his Instagram post upon leaving the Nou Camp, making it clear that he wasn’t overly chuffed with the manner in which his exit was handled.
“I would have liked to leave in another way, although I suppose that a farewell can never be something nice … I would have loved to continue here, I did everything with that objective and in the end it did not happen. I only have words of thanks for all those who have accompanied me in so many years at the club. And for our fans, that they gave me all their love and that I tried to give it back to them, also giving everything for this shirt. I’m leaving but it’s not goodbye, just see you later. Viva Barça !!!”
Following on from that just days later was a short and simple message to the PSG fans – he’s here, and he’s ready to cause some chaos.
“I start a new stage in my life and I do it with all the motivation and desire to continue learning every day. We will work to meet the objectives of @psg. #AllezParis”
Lionel Messi is one of the greatest footballers of all time and nobody is going to try and deny that, but he’s pretty much spent his entire career at one club – Barcelona.
There’s nothing wrong whatsoever with this route but now that he’s been somewhat forced out of the club, there are a lot of questions being raised about what his PSG run is going to look like.
He’s going to have Neymar by his side which is obviously going to serve as quite the boost but the big question rests with who is going to be on the other side. Kylian Mbappe currently occupies that role and does so very well, but given how much speculation there is regarding the Frenchman heading over to Real Madrid, some have wondered whether or not PSG could make yet another ambitious signing: Cristiano Ronaldo.
The idea of having Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar featuring on the same team is almost unthinkable and would likely create one of the most unbelievable super teams in the history of the beautiful game. These three men together have defined an entire generation and as we look ahead to the future, it’s hard not to be incredibly excited by what Paris Saint-Germain are going to produce.
Lionel Messi, in his own right, has the weight of the world on his shoulders – but something tells us that’s precisely the position he wants to be in.
He’s the talisman for PSG now and Ligue 1 is going to be in some real trouble, which is why we can’t wait to see it all go down this season.
