Juventus Go After Mauricio Pochettino

As reported by talkSPORT and Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has certainly given heavy indications that he is interested in staying in North London with the club for the foreseeable future. There’s no way of guaranteeing that’s going to be the case, obviously, because football is an ever-changing game with an ever-changing landscape, but that appears to be where we’re at based on the information we’ve been provided with.

However, that hasn’t stopped Italian giants Juventus from making it very clear that they want to bring the Argentine boss over to the club. The relentless champions have had another strong season, but they seem to be missing one thing: consistent progress in Europe, and a Champions League trophy. When you take one look at Mauricio Pochettino this season, one thing stands out: he has led Spurs to the Champions League final. That kind of accomplishment shouldn’t, and doesn’t, go unnoticed, to the point where it’s kind of all anyone can talk about at this point. At the same time, we’d be foolish to pretend like the idea of moving to Juve doesn’t interest him just a little bit.

Could it happen?

From a quality and history standpoint you could certainly argue that Juventus are the bigger club, and as a result, there’s a worry that they could wind up bullying Tottenham into submission here. That might sound a little bit overdramatic but we’ve all seen it happen before, and in terms of what could happen in the next few weeks, it really does seem like it depends on what happens in Madrid. Poch could win the UCL and feel like he needs to move on to a different challenge, or he could lose the final and decide that he wants to stick it out with Spurs – or vice versa. It’s all a little bit uncertain right now, and to a certain extent, it feels like the man himself enjoys that fact. He’s the kind of guy who seems to thrive on living in the moment, and there’s no better way of describing what is happening here than that. He wants to deal with things one day at a time, and he has kind of earned the right to do that. There are very few managers who could have the same kind of success at Tottenham that he has, and we think he knows it.

The potential deal

Juve have supposedly got a four-year deal in mind for him, but they can’t go into negotiations thinking that they’re definitely going to secure his services. If they have that mentality then they may as well pack up their bags and leave, because Pochettino is going to make them work for it.

This could wind up being one of the stories of the summer, and to be honest, we wouldn’t be too angry about it. As long as it doesn’t get dragged out for a ridiculous amount of time and we get some kind of closure for both teams, then proceed as usual.
