Eden Hazard’s Real Madrid Switch Edges Closer

There are many players within the landscape of world football that we all look at and think ‘yeah, we’d love to have him at our club one day’. Most of the time it’s an incredibly unrealistic thought process, which is why we forget about it as soon as we’ve just started. Fans of teams like Real Madrid, however, don’t really have that problem, because there’s probably not a player on the planet (aside from Lionel Messi) that they couldn’t tempt over to the Bernabeu.

One of the biggest rumours in recent months has been that Eden Hazard, one of Chelsea’s biggest stars over the last few years, is heading to Real Madrid. Now, according to BBC, that deal is on the verge of being completed. It’s the news that Blues fans have been dreading for the longest time, but at least it seems as if it’s finally going to get pushed over the finish line. According to Evening Standard, they’re also going to be giving him a substantial increase when it comes to his wages. That last part is hardly a surprise, because come on, this is one of the best players in the world we’re talking about here.

The deal is done

This seemed like one of the most obvious moves of the summer and now that it has officially gone through, both clubs can start to move on from this saga. Real are probably still going to go after a series of top players throughout the remainder of the summer transfer window, whereas Chelsea have to start rearranging their squad in preparation for their return to Champions League football.

You’d have to imagine that Hazard is going to flourish in a league like La Liga, which is historically considered to be much less demanding than the Premier League. The Belgian has been ready and waiting for this move to come for the longest time now, and while he hasn’t always been 100% professional about it when discussing the possibility of a transfer away from the club, it still needs to be noted that he was dropping hints all over the place in the last few months.

Moving on

But, as they say, that can be viewed as water under the bridge, because it’s time for a new chapter to begin. Zinedine Zidane saw Eden as one of his top priorities this summer, and now, he’s got him. There are many other world class names that are going to be heavily linked with a move to Madrid, and we’d bet good money that they’re going to land them.

Chelsea’s transfer ban is almost certainly going to throw a spanner into the works for them, but in reality, the even bigger question is who will be taking over from Maurizio Sarri who also seems to be on the verge of leaving. Frank Lampard’s name has been mentioned on multiple occasions, but when you really think about it, that seems like an absolutely massive risk.

Either way, things are about to get even more interesting – or so it seems.
