Who Made A Premier League Statement This Week?

The Premier League served up another round of entertaining fixtures over the course of the weekend with a string of clubs managing to come out smelling of roses as we approach the heart of the autumn schedule.

Today, we’re going to pick out a few sides that impressed above the rest with performances that are likely to be remembered for a good few weeks to come.

Arsenal – beat Aston Villa 3-1

This game was all about maintaining a sense of control for Arsenal and they did just that with an efficient, “to the point” game that they wound up running away with.

The Gunners looked comfortable on the ball and dangerous going forward, and while Aston Villa being poor had a lot to do with it, Arsenal deserved their fair share of credit.

Chelsea – beat Norwich 7-0

This one just wasn’t even close and there’s no nice way of saying it. Norwich City just aren’t cut out for the Premier League right now whereas Chelsea are embarrassingly good – and they haven’t even gotten out of first gear yet.

They have so many options at their disposal and it’s gradually becoming clearer why they were able to lift the Champions League trophy just a few months ago.

Watford – beat Everton 5-2

Everton were 2-1 up and appeared to be in full control of their game against Watford on Saturday but in the blink of an eye, the master that is Claudio Ranieri had helped to turn the result on its head with an insane four-goal flurry.

This could hand Watford the confidence they need to kick on and push away from the relegation battle or, alternatively, it could all go south in a matter of weeks – and the uncertainty is what keeps us all coming back for more.

West Ham – beat Tottenham 1-0

This wasn’t a particularly entertaining game of football but that wasn’t the point for West Ham United. Their aim was to play Tottenham at their own methodical style and eventually break them down which, it turns out, is precisely what they did.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were simply outclassed by the boys from East London and because of the result, David Moyes’ side are in the top four. That would’ve been unheard of just a few short years ago but the resilience and grit of this squad only goes from strength to strength.

Liverpool – beat Manchester United 5-0

We knew Manchester United had problems but this was on a whole new level entirely. Liverpool, their bitter rivals, were 4-0 up by half-time and eventually secured a 5-0 win to pile on the misery for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

The big focus is going to be on the shortcomings of Manchester United and we understand that, but an equal amount of praise needs to go to Liverpool for their lethal finishing and insane tenacity. In our view they’re still the ones to watch in the title race and if you needed a reminder of how good they can be, even when they’re not on top form, then here you go.
