Finishing 8th in the Premier League would be seen as a positive result for plenty of teams in the top flight but for a team like Arsenal, they really should be aiming higher.
They won’t be playing in the Champions League, Europa League or even Conference League, forcing them to take stock and really evaluate what exactly it is they want to achieve in the next few months.
Mikel Arteta has the weight of the world on his shoulders but if he wants to go down as a successful manager at the Emirates, he has to do a whole lot more.
Premier League
Arsenal really need to be shooting for a place in the top six at the very least here because if they don’t, without the distraction of Europe, absolutely huge questions will be asked of Arteta.
Prediction: 5th
FA Cup
Arsenal are the most successful team in the history of the FA Cup and that’s all the convincing they should need. This is a tournament they should be heavily favoured in, or at the very least, they should go far.
Prediction: Semi-finals
League Cup
People don’t really rate the League Cup but as a motivational boost half way through the season, it can be quite effective. The Gunners will need to rely on their youngsters which may be their silver lining, especially given how much they undervalue them.
Prediction: Semi-finals
