UEFA Champions League Semi-Finals Confirmed

It’s been a long journey to get to this point, but finally, we’re at the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League.

There are four teams left in the hunt as they all strive to become the new Champions of England, and this year, a theme has developed heading into the semis: Germany vs France.

There are two clubs from Ligue 1 and two clubs from the Bundesliga facing off against one another after all remaining teams from Serie A, La Liga and the Premier League were eliminated.

Today, we’re going to take a quick look at the two semi-finals as well as what happened in the quarters.

RB Leipzig vs Paris Saint-Germain

A few years ago many casual fans didn’t even know who RB Leipzig as a club were, and now, they’re in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

They beat Atletico Madrid in order to get here, in a performance that showcased their ability not to panic under pressure. They stayed calm, broke the Spaniards down, and booked their place in the next round.

PSG, on the other hand, had to overcome the incredibly impressive Atalanta. The Italian side were leading the way for most of the tie, only for two goals in the 90th minute to hand the champions a huge victory.

Lyon vs Bayern Munich

As if beating Juventus wasn’t enough, Lyon took their game to a whole new level in the quarter-finals when they beat Manchester City. They were incredibly solid from a defensive standpoint, and when going forward, they had a composure that City just didn’t seem to possess.

Bayern, though, really did prove why they’re considered to be the clear favorites to win the whole thing. They battered Barcelona 8-2 in one of the most one-sided European ties we’ve ever seen, which actually says a lot, given the fact that Barca scored twice and had a handful of good opportunities early on.

Predictions

It’s never easy to say which way games like these are going to go, but in this instance, we feel confident in suggesting that PSG and Bayern Munich will be the two teams contesting this year’s final in Portugal.

It’s been one hell of a season and all four teams deserve to be recognized for their efforts, but at the end of the day, the talent of Bayern and PSG should prove to be too much.

PSG have the momentum on their side after they were able to somehow beat Atalanta, whereas Bayern are just unbelievably strong going forward.

If we did wind up getting a Leipzig vs Lyon final, though, that’d be on par with 2004 as one of the most shocking finals in history when FC Porto squared off against AS Monaco.

We’d like to think that everything is going to run much more smoothly for this competition next season, but we don’t know that for sure. Therefore, we’d suggest that you try and enjoy the rest of these games as much as you can – because there’s going to be an awful lot of improv going on over the course of the next few months.
