Tottenham’s Season Has Already Been A Success

The measure by which you determine whether a season has been a success or a failure is a funny thing. A lot of it depends on what division you’re in, and also what your overall expectations actually are. It can vary greatly from team to team, but when it comes to Tottenham Hotspur, the lines have been blurred for a long time now.

The Spurs go marching in

Heading into this season it’s safe to say that there was a certain degree of concern regarding what this club could achieve. Mauricio Pochettino was still considered to be the right man for the job, but it was hard to ignore his failings during the summer transfer window. Spurs were unable to bring in any new, high level talent, and that could’ve really wound up having an impact on the team. Along the way they certainly had their problems, and injuries definitely hit them hard at points, but they’ve been able to persevere despite all of that noise and chaos.

They have wound up finishing in fourth place, and to be honest, that’s one of the primary things you’d expect from a team of their quality – but again, you have to remember the excess to all of this. Spurs have had to deal with changing stadiums, being short on players, and generally not having much luck swing in their direction. Through it all, though, they’ve come out the other side with a Champions League place secured for next season.

Oh, yes, the Champions League. As reported by the club themselves on Twitter they have one more game left to play this season: the Champions League final.

That’s a sentence which would’ve been laughed off at the start of the season, and to be honest, even just a few short weeks ago. They weren’t expected to do much of any real note in Europe, and yet here they are.

Changing their ways

The fact that they’ve been able to reach the final could open up a world of possibilities for them in the transfer window, which they obviously sorely need. There’s plenty of time for them to improve upon their position in the Premier League, but the fact that they’ve been able to do so well in Europe (and beat Manchester City along the way) is a sign that it’s distinctly possible.

There are of course rumours surrounding the future of the aforementioned Pochettino who, as reported by The Express, is having to fend off questions regarding where he’ll end up next season.

If you watched the post-match celebrations of Spurs’ last minute win over Ajax, you’d probably be of the same opinion as we are: that he probably isn’t going anywhere. Even if he does, the guy has already done a phenomenal job when it comes to improving the stature of THFC and getting them to where they want to be.

For now Tottenham Hotspur fans can head to Madrid knowing that destiny could possibly await. Either way, as we’ve said, it’s been one hell of a journey – and it’s only just begun.
