You just never know which way a rumoured transfer is going to go until you’ve been given the official confirmation by the clubs and player involved. There’s just so much uncertainty in football these days and so many different factors to consider, which is why it’s better to leave it alone and let the madness unfold before your very eyes.
As reported by Metro and The Guardian, the madness is indeed unfolding when it comes to one man in particular: Wilfried Zaha. The former Manchester United star has been heavily linked with a series of clubs, as he edges closer and closer towards a move away from Crystal Palace. While he hasn’t formally put forward a transfer request, which could either speed up or delay the process, it certainly seems obvious at this point in proceedings.
Taking the next step forward
Now, it’s just a case of deciding where he wants to end up. Logic would dictate that he wants to go to the club that he has been linked with the most (and that he supported once upon a time) and that is Arsenal. The Gunners already look to have a few really intriguing transfers set up for completion in the next few days, but from a financial point of view, bringing in Zaha would serve as a huge statement of intent.
He seems to be the kind of player they need from an attacking point of view, as he could bounce off of both Aubameyang and Lacazette really well. Sure, the fee that is being demanded by Palace sounds a little bit extravagant, but that’s just the kind of market that we find ourselves in. If they don’t stump up the cash soon, Palace are going to start dragging their feet in a big way – and to be perfectly honest, we wouldn’t blame them.
On the other hand, you’ve got Everton, who appear to have edged themselves into the hunt out of nowhere. While nobody really knows whether or not they’re going to have the money necessary to lure him to Goodison Park, it’s definitely an ambitious step forward for the Toffees – and if you ask their fans about it, they’d probably say it’s exactly the kind of transfer they need.
On the hunt for gold
Zaha, ever since returning from Manchester United, has done a really great job of building himself back up as one of the most exciting players in the Premier League. A move away from Selhurst Park has felt long overdue, and in many ways, it has nothing to do with Hodgson’s squad.
To put it as simply as we can, he deserves the chance to play European football at the highest level. With that in mind, and with the two clubs that we’ve already listed being the primary contenders, it seems bizarre to consider any other possibility than him heading to Arsenal.
If another major European team comes in with an impressive offer then that could change, but we just can’t picture that happening this summer.
