The Renewed Chelsea Confidence

We’re just over a week away from the return of the Premier League and it certainly seems as if we’re in for one hell of a campaign – although, in all fairness, we do tend to say that every single year.

You can attribute a lot of different factors to that but beyond everything else, we think there’s going to be a really entertaining title race going on at the top of the table.

Liverpool and Manchester City are almost certainly going to make their mark as they always do but we’d like to believe there’s going to be an even greater threat from the rest of the teams in English football’s top tier too.

We can’t guarantee that but we can certainly hope for it and even though a handful could make that push, including Spurs, Arsenal and Man United, we’re going to focus our attention on Chelsea.

While the Blues have been consistently recognised as one of the strongest forces across Europe for many years, their star power has certainly taken a hit since the start of last season.

It isn’t even necessarily due to what’s happening on the pitch, either, as a large portion of the blame can be put on Roman Abramovich and his ownership dilemma at Stamford Bridge.

Thankfully, heading into such a huge period for the club in the weeks and months ahead, a new owner has been found and the Roman era can be appropriately put to bed – while still being able to acknowledge how much good came out of it in terms of their success.

Then comes the summer transfer window which has seen the club weed out some of the deadwood (we all know who) and focus on bringing in a few new faces to really steady up what they’re trying to do across their entire squad.

The two big signings so far have been Raheem Sterling, a much needed fresh attacking presence, and Kalidou Koulibaly, a defensive  stalwart who will be the kind of defender that shapes the immediate future of the boys from Stamford Bridge.

Conor Gallagher returning is also an unbelievably big step forward that few seem to be talking about, probably because there’s an expectation that he’s going to head back out on loan.

We aren’t here to say that definitely won’t happen but in equal measure, we trust the manager to recognise what kind of talent he’s got on his hands with the youngster.

Speaking of,  there’s a great deal of good that can be said when it comes to Thomas Tuchel.

The gaffer flies under the radar a lot of the time, probably due to the competition he faces in the Premier League, but we constantly find ourselves basking in the glory of his biggest and best moments as manager.

Sometimes that’s on the touchline and other times it’s during interviews but through it all, the German seems to have a very clear idea of what he wants – and if you don’t believe us, go and watch his rant after the Arsenal defeat.
