The Fall and Rise Of Newcastle United

When Manchester City were first taken over, there was a great deal of jealousy in the air from throughout English football. That was pretty understandable when you consider the kind of money that was being talked about in regards to future transfers, and then when things started to develop, the jealousy grew and grew. Ever since a lot of fans have decided to condemn the use of ‘oil money’ in the world of football, and yet we all know that they would jump at the chance to experience a similar takeover if they could.

A number of clubs have been heavily linked with big money takeovers in the past, but very few actually come to fruition due to a variety of different actors. As reported by Chronicle Live, however, it seems as if Newcastle United are edging closer and closer towards making their proposed takeover a reality.

Here we go again

Their Twitter account would suggest that it is business as usual for the Magpies, but let’s be honest with ourselves here, this isn’t just a rumour anymore. There seems to be some real intent behind this potential move, to the point where fans are allowing themselves to get excited.

They’ve had to endure years upon years of torture under the reign of Mike Ashley, and every single Newcastle fan (we hope) would agree with that sentiment. They haven’t been able to make any significant kind of progress, which isn’t great when you consider the stature of the club as a whole. Logically speaking they should be in the mix for a place in Europe, but they haven’t even come close in the last few years.

Instead, they’ve had to deal with poor transfers, financial issues, many bad managers and two relegations into the second tier of English football. They’ve bounced back as of late, but in terms of taking themselves to the next level, a deal like this is what they really need.

Could it be?

A lot of folks aren’t going to be huge fans of another club going in the same direction as Manchester City, but before we get the pitchforks out, let’s just see how things go over the course of the next few months. Perhaps this is all going to be for nothing, and Ashley is just going to end up sacking Rafa Benitez in favour of a move for Mark Hughes. Stranger things have happened.

As a fanbase you can’t get much better than the Geordies, but understandably, they’ve been a bit in the dumps as of late. They need something that is going to pull them out of their funk, and the departure of Mike Ashley feels like it’d be located towards the top of that list.

They need to put an end to this current chapter, because let’s be honest, it’s been going on for far too long now.

We aren’t suggesting they’re going to go out there and buy Kylian Mbappe within a matter of weeks, but they’re certainly going to be active in the summer transfer window – and good for them.
