Premier League Transfer Window Set To Close

All good things must come to an end, and as reported by The Telegraph and Evening Standard, one such ‘good thing’ is the Premier League transfer window. Of course, the imminent closure of the window also means that actual football is going to be back on our screens sooner rather than later, so it can’t be all bad, can it?

This summer we’ve seen some absolutely massive deals go through over in England already, which is pretty common, given that it’s the biggest and best league in the world (although some will view that as a debatable point when compared with the likes of La Liga).

A progressive window?

Either way, though, it’s difficult to get away from the fact that the Premier League is going to have the eyes of the football world on it once again as we look ahead to the brand new campaign. Better yet, though, it legitimately feels like all twenty teams have made an honest to god effort to try and really improve the state of their squads. You could argue that a few teams haven’t exactly lived up to the hype, but it’s all subjective.

The confirmation of Harry Maguire’s move to Manchester United is one of the biggest stories to come out of the window, if only because of the £80 million fee that he demanded. Of course, you’ve also got Eden Hazard’s departure from the league in favour of heading over to Real Madrid, but that happened so long ago now that it feels like a different life altogether.

There’s still some major uncertainty over the future of Wilfried Zaha which, in itself, won’t come as much of a surprise to anyone. Everton are desperately trying to get a deal over the finish line but as time goes on, it seems less and less likely that they can come to an arrangement. Instead, another season at Palace (or half season) looms large for the Ivory Coast international.

The Spurs go marching

Then, we come to Tottenham Hotspur. They are set to be the busiest team by far in the next 36 hours or so, as they go in search of two of the biggest signings of the window by a country mile. Firstly, they’re on the verge of signing Philippe Coutinho, who has been on the verge of leaving Barcelona for quite some time now. Oh, and he was also linked with a move to Arsenal but they couldn’t get a deal done, which is bound to please many Spurs fans.

Then there’s Paulo Dybala who, from what we can tell, is much more interested in joining Tottenham than he is Manchester United. The appeal of Champions League football is almost certainly one of the biggest factors behind that possible move, and we’re genuinely intrigued to see whether or not Tottenham can actually get him to sign on the dotted line.

After all, it’s all well and good saying this, but now we need to see some action – because the deadline is almost upon us.
