In times of such uncertainty, it’s important for us to stick together – and, in particular, it’s of vital importance that those who are able to give more do indeed give what they can to try and help the cause.
The coronavirus pandemic has been ongoing for quite some time now, and it doesn’t really appear as if there’s much of an end in sight. Alas, while that may be the case, we’re still being given cause for optimism all across the world, and it’s coming in different forms.
In the Premier League, players have come together in a fantastic show of solidarity with the #PlayersTogether movement. It will see them donate money, as a cohesive unit, to the NHS aka National Health Service so that they can help ease the pressure they’re currently facing in England.
“We can confirm that after extensive conversations between a huge number of players from all Premier League clubs we have created our own collective player initiative, #PlayersTogether, and have partnered with NHS Charities Together (NHSCT) in order to assist them in generating and distributing funds quickly and efficiently to where they are needed most.”
“The contributions that this initiative will generate will help NHSCT quickly grant funds to the front line to support in a number of ways, including to help enhance the wellbeing of NHS staff, volunteers and patients impacted by Covid-19.”
“By sticking together we will get through this. Stay Home, Protect The NHS, Save Lives. #PlayersTogether.”
It appears as if the driving force behind the whole initiative has been none other than Jordan Henderson who has done a wonderful job of ‘rallying the troops’ so to speak. It hasn’t been an easy time for anyone, and while it’s easy to sit back and let the gravity of the situation get you down, getting up and doing something to help is what we should all be striving to do.
Football in Europe probably isn’t going to return in the manner that we think it will until the end of May, and perhaps even the start of June. Either way, the expectation is that we will pick up where this season left off as opposed to starting a new one – which is almost certainly the right way to go about doing this.
To all of the players, coaches and fans that have been productive in getting involved in this, we say thank you. Premier League players have been vilified in the last few weeks by the media, mainly because the government in the UK decided to put the blame on them as opposed to themselves.
Now isn’t the time for pointing fingers, though, because instead, it’s all about shining a light towards the future and figuring out what exactly it is we want to do next, and how we want to do it.
For those of you who are experiencing increasing levels of boredom at home, just hang in there. Sooner rather than later, football will be back in our lives, and that’s a cause for celebration. Stay safe.
