Premier League Clarity Awaits?

The Premier League is back once again this weekend as we continue through the month of April which, all things considered, has the potential to be the most exciting month of the campaign yet.

We all have a rough idea of where things are going in terms of the ‘direction of travel’ for the four categories we’re about to discuss, but when you take one look at the fixtures this weekend, it soon becomes clear that we could have a much more obvious picture of what’s going to happen after these games.

So with all of that being said, it’s time to run down the 10 clashes that we’ll be enjoying over the next few days.

Title race

Manchester United’s slim hopes of pursuing the title will be challenged by a Tottenham side who have everything to lose on Sunday – but even if they win, we’re not so sure it’s going to make a huge difference.

Why? Because Manchester City are the champions-elect and even if they don’t beat Leeds United tomorrow, they’re still going to be just a few games away from sealing the deal.

They are on the verge of history and the Premier League feels like one of the easiest steps for them to wrap up.

Top four

Leicester City seem to be quite comfortable in the top four race but if they want to make absolutely sure of that, beating West Ham United on Sunday would be a pretty smart idea – although as we know, the Hammers themselves are also right up there in the Champions League mix.

Chelsea will visit Crystal Palace in what could turn out to be a potential banana skin, Liverpool seek revenge against Aston Villa and Tottenham will host Manchester United in a game that we actually think they should see as winnable.

Top six

The only other teams in this race who we haven’t already mentioned are Everton and Arsenal, both of whom should be expecting a win over the weekend. The Gunners will take on Sheffield United who are pretty much relegated already, whereas the Toffees should be the favourites against a Brighton side who are fairly inconsistent at the best of times.

Aston Villa could have an outside chance if they beat Liverpool but in reality, their best bet is to try and secure a top half finish before building on what they’ve got during the summer transfer window.

Relegation battle

Newcastle could give their survival hopes a huge boost if they’re able to overcome Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday lunchtime but as we all know, expecting the unexpected is the route forward in this league.

Fulham actually kick off the festivities this evening when they host a Wolves side who are hoping to rediscover their lost identity.

Then, on Monday Night Football, West Bromwich Albion want to try and engineer another great escape – but if they want to pull it off, they have to beat Southampton at The Hawthorns.

If they pull it off, they could be one to watch.
