Overall Success For English Clubs In Europe This Week

Another week of European action is officially in the books and we’d say it was a pretty successful one for most of the English clubs across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.

Of course there are a few results that stand out amongst

Young Boys 2-1 Man United

Manchester United would’ve expected to be off to the races with all three points in the bag when they took the lead against Young Boys but instead, they fell to a somewhat shocking 2-1 defeat.

Wan-Bissaka’s foolish red card was one of the key factors behind their loss but in reality, they just didn’t look up for the challenge whatsoever which is a real shame.

Chelsea 1-0 Zenit St Petersburg

Chelsea did not play that well against Zenit and twelve months ago, this is a game they would’ve failed to win – that much just seems obvious.

But instead of withering away they picked themselves up and gave the ball to Romelu Lukuaku – a man who seems to have been completely revitalised since making his way back to Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool 3-2 AC Milan

A Liverpool comeback against AC Milan sounds like a pretty familiar tale but this time around, it actually came from the Reds being the complacent and more experienced side.

They should’ve been out of sight by the time Milan turned things around but thankfully for the home fans in attendance at Anfield, Jordan Henderson was ready and waiting to smash the ball into the back of the net with an emphatic strike following Salah’s equaliser.

Man City 6-3 RB Leipzig

Manchester City’s defeat to Tottenham on the opening weekend of the Premier League season just seems to have made them angrier and based on this performance, that’s a very scary prospect indeed.

This nine-goal thriller saw City run out as 6-3 victors over an RB Leipzig side who fought well, but were simply overmatched.

Dinamo Zagreb 0-2 West Ham

West Ham United looked completely at home in the Europa League with a disciplined, entertaining performance in which they looked like a completely professional outfit in Croatia.

They soaked up any and all forms of pressure that came their way and that led to an efficient and impressive three points.

Leicester 2-2 Napoli

Leicester City let their guard down and that’s something you just can’t do against one of the teams that are considered to be amongst the favourites in the Europa League.

They were 2-0 up at the King Power and seemingly cruising, only for the Italian side to edge their way back into proceedings with a really gritty and determined comeback.

Rennes 2-2 Tottenham

The Nuno Espirito Santo experiment is obviously still far from being over and done with given the fact that they’ve only lost once in his first five competitive games. Alas, between the Palace defeat and this draw in the Conference League, speculation is understandable.

The Portuguese boss doesn’t exactly play the best brand of football and while Rennes were incredibly up for the task, this is a game Spurs should’ve had in the bag.
