Manchester City & Liverpool Continue To Thrive

Another Premier League weekend is in the books, and it’s actually the final set of fixtures before we all head off on the international break. We saw some pretty entertaining games, as has been a common theme over the course of the last few weeks, and we also saw a few more chapters being written into the early stages of the Premier League title race.

Manchester City and Liverpool and almost certainly going to be the two leading contenders for the crown, and we don’t really think there’s much of a way in which you can deny that. Both clubs look stronger than ever, which is bizarre, because they both produced some utterly outrageous results and performances last season to finish miles ahead of the rest of the competition below them.

Push the pace

As reported by BBC, reigning champions Manchester City were able to ensure that they didn’t lose any more ground on leaders Liverpool by trouncing Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0. The Seagulls have looked really efficient so far this season under new boss Graham Potter, but when it comes to facing City, there really is no comparison and there’s no way for you to properly prepare for such an overwhelming task.

Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva were all able to get themselves on the scoresheet, and the visitors just couldn’t deal with that forward-thinking kind of pressure. It was a mauling, and in many ways, you could argue it was never going to be anything less.

The game was tough. The result was 4-0 but the performance not because they did really well.

“Few teams come here to play with this courage. The difference? My players up front are incredibly good and they make the difference.” said City boss Pep Guardiola.

Then, not so far away in Lancashire, it was the turn of Liverpool as they attempted to see whether or not they’d be able to respond to the never say die attitude of Burnley Football Club.

Alas, not only were they able to control the Clarets, as reported by BBC, but they wound up running away with it in the form of a decisive victory.

Never stop

A Chris Wood own goal that came from a nice Trent Alexander-Arnold move kicked things off, before Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino closed the show and ensured that the Reds would finish the weekend at the top of the mountain.

“But it’s good eh? He was upset, it was obvious.

“Sadio cannot hide his emotions, I like that. But all sorted. We spoke about it and everything is fine.

“We are individuals, we are emotional. It was a situation in a game. What else could have happened? It was not a phone call.”

Those are the words of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp who cleared up any lingering doubts surrounding what happened with Sadio Mane.

As we look ahead to the future it’s hard to picture or imagine any other teams coming close to the quality of these juggernauts, and you could argue that the same will be true in the Champions League.
