Luiz And Tierney Heading To Arsenal On Deadline Day?

It’s Deadline Day for the twenty Premier League clubs over in England, all of whom will be thinking that they can get one or two more deals done before the window officially slams shut at 5pm British time. Of course, that isn’t realistic for some teams, but one club that is really pushing hard to bring in a few more faces is Arsenal.

The Gunners have been pushing and pushing all summer long to try and bolster their squad, and while some fans may not be too confident ahead of the brand new season, we’d argue that things are looking okay for them right now. Plus, as reported by Independent and BBC, things could be getting even better in the next few hours.

“I don’t know anything. I’ve said the last few days it wouldn’t surprise me [if Arsenal came back in for the player].

“If he goes, he goes with everyone’s best wishes. He’s an outstanding talent and a great kid.”

Two new faces

Those are the words of Celtic boss Neil Lennon, who was commenting in response to the increased likelihood of Kieran Tierney leaving for Arsenal. It seems like just a matter of time before this move is given the official seal of approval, after well over a month of speculation as to whether or not the Gunners would be able to get it done.

Then, you’ve got David Luiz. The Chelsea defender made it known around 24 hours or so ago that he wanted to make the jump across London to Arsenal, in what would serve as one of the more surprising deals of the summer transfer window.

While Luiz has certainly made spontaneous decisions about his future before, we never really expected to see him in an Arsenal shirt. He isn’t going to be breaking into the first team with the Blues anytime soon if reports are to be believed so maybe, just maybe, this is the deal that all Gunners fans have been waiting for (without even realising it).

Making waves

We aren’t suggesting that all of the club’s problems are going to be resolved by bringing in these two names, but hey, it’s a start. Arsenal are on the verge of breaking into the top four and winning trophies again, and they just need to try and sure up their defensive problems. It’s going to take some time before they can get that done, but bringing in two defenders on Deadline Day is a good starting point as we look ahead to the new campaign.

There’s still way too much uncertainty in the air for us to definitively say that these deals are going to get signed in an official capacity, but in equal measure, we don’t know that they aren’t going to be either.

In many ways you could argue this is a golden time to be an Arsenal fan, but in order to say that without laughing, they need to show a bit more grit and determination – which is what we’re seeing with these deals.
