Liverpool Win English League Title For First Time In 30 Years

It’s been a long time coming, but Liverpool Football Club can finally call themselves the Champions of England once again.

They didn’t get the job done in the manner that many had thought they probably would, as they had to rely on Chelsea beating Manchester City to get them over the finish line. In the end, though, it didn’t matter, because the feeling of joy that came for the fans is something they’ll never forget.

They’re still on track to register a record points tally in the Premier League, too, and while that doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, you just know they’d love to hold that over everyone’s heads if given the chance to do so.

In the immediate aftermath of the title win being confirmed, manager Jurgen Klopp had the following to say.

“I have no words, it’s unbelievable.

“It’s much more than I ever thought would be possible. Becoming champion with this club is absolutely incredible.

“I haven’t waited 30 years – I have been here for four and a half years – but it is quite an achievement, especially with the three-month break because nobody knew if we could go on.

“I know it is difficult for people in this moment but we could not hold back. We will enjoy this with our supporters when we can.”

While Klopp is just one man, and this was quite clearly a team effort, nobody can deny the influence and impact he has had on the city of Liverpool ever since he made his way over to Anfield from Germany.

He has started a revolution, winning both the European Cup and the league title – two things that looked like a distant possibility when he first made his way through the doors.

Reds captain Jordan Henderson also took some time to reflect on what Klopp has done for the club.

“When you win, he’s on the dancefloor and partying but to be honest, when we lose, the way he handles that is incredible,” Henderson said.

“I always felt he had that belief in this team that after each final we maybe did not win, we would come back stronger, or when we have won, he knows that we’ll keep going.

“This is why it feels so good, to give something back to everyone, especially the Premier League title everyone has wanted for so long.”

With the FA Cup and the Champions League not being a concern, the rest of the season will see the Reds focus their attention on breaking the record points tally. Regardless of whether or not it happens, though, this is a season that fans of clubs all around the country won’t soon forget – mainly because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even when you take that into consideration, though, Liverpool’s big moment has served as a reminder to us all of what football can do and what the sport, as a whole, is capable of.
