Liverpool & Everton Clash In Huge Merseyside Derby

Domestic football is back in our lives once again and while the international break had a few bright moments, nothing can compare with the Premier League – outside of the World Cup and Euros, of course.

A whole host of intriguing fixtures are set to go down this weekend but the most fascinating of them all, arguably, comes in the very first game tomorrow afternoon as Liverpool prepare to go head to head with Everton.

For the first time in a long time it genuinely feels like there are some major stakes attached to the Merseyside derby and we don’t say that lightly. Liverpool were taken to the cleaners in a big way in their last outing against Aston Vila, losing 7-2 in one of the most embarrassing games in the club’s recent memory.

On the flip side you’ve got Everton who are currently riding high at the top of the Premier League table. It truly has been a fantastic start for the Toffees, and one look at the core of their squad should tell you they could go a whole lot higher than that.

Not in terms of the table, of course, because they’re sitting pretty right now, but you can believe they can push this momentum forward to a point where they’re in the conversation for a top four place – at the very least.

Ancelotti knows how big this game is for the fans, the players and everyone associated with the club, because if they win, it’ll mean a whole lot more than just three points.

It’ll set down a marker against the club that have paraded themselves around as the top dogs for longer than most of us can remember. They haven’t been shy in lauding their success over their neighbors’ heads and after their Premier League title win last season, Liverpool became a place that the red side of the city enjoyed very much.

Jurgen Klopp doesn’t want to lose sight of what’s important – and that’s retaining their position as Champions of England. If they let that slip through their fingers, the dominoes could quite easily start to fall – and no, that’s not an exaggeration.

In terms of the official prediction it really is quite hard to say because both clubs are stacked to the brim with as much quality as you can get at this level. Everton aren’t shy going forward and Liverpool are weak at the back right now, and you could make the very same argument in the reverse.

Logic dictates we’re going to see a whole host of goals but that’s too good to be true and we all know it. We believe Liverpool are going to edge out a narrow and somewhat fortunate 1-0 win, and from there, you have to wonder whether or not Everton’s confidence is going to be knocked.

All the fans can hope for is an entertaining game between two of England’s finest, if only to take our minds off of what’s happening around the world. It’s the little things, right?
