Liverpool Beat Wolves In Thrilling Game At Molineux

Everyone loves a great game of football regardless of who might be playing, and last night, that’s exactly what we got at Molineux as two of English football’s finest went toe to toe in a fascinating clash.

As reported by The Guardian and BBC, Wolverhampton Wanderers pushed Liverpool to their limit – but in the end, the Reds were able to come away with a huge three points in the West Midlands.

Wolves seemed to be getting their foot on the ball early in the first few minutes of the game, but as has been the case all season long, Liverpool were able to punish them for a lapse in concentration as Jordan Henderson headed home from a corner less than 10 minutes in.

A great showcase

The visitors had a few more chances throughout the first half, but it was Matt Doherty who was left with his head in his hands after he broke the offside trap and sent his header wide.

Early on in the second half the momentum seemed to shift in favour of Wolves, which came after a sustained period of control from Liverpool to round out the first 45 minutes.

The hosts were able to equalise when Adama Traore was unleashed down the right hand side before he chipped a delightful ball onto the head of Raul Jimenez who guided his header past Alisson.

From that point on there was a period of one way traffic with Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez both going close to giving Wolves the lead. Alas, if you give the Champions of Europe an inch they will take a mile, and that’s what they did with a few minutes remaining as Roberto Firmino found some room inside the box and smashed his shot into the top corner of the net.

Wolves pushed and pushed but they couldn’t find another equaliser in what many will consider to be one of the best games of the season – and rightfully so.

Nuno Espirito Santo was quick to praise his side after the game.

“It was a good game. We played well. There is nothing to be disappointed about. Getting the momentum was important.

“We defended well, we were well organised. This is what we want. We want to compete and keep on growing.

“We had in the last moment of the game [the chance to equalise]. It’s about creating. Things will come naturally.

“I’m happy when we perform well. We faced a fantastic team. This is the standards we want.”

Klopp, as you can imagine, understood the how close his team came to dropping points in the league for only the second time this season.

“We changed the system two or three times, we calmed it down. We had incredible chances in the first half and then at the end it was a magic moment from Bobby.

“The boys are human. It was a little bit up and down. We had discussion on the pitch, there was stuff to improve but set-pieces can bring us back in the game, a good bit of skill can bring us back in the game. Wolves were really strong but it’s clear we could settle again.

“You just have to find a way to win and have someone who makes the perfect decision and that was Bobby again.”
