Leicester’s Sign Of Intent With Youri Tielemans?

Sometimes in football it feels like all of the stars align perfectly for your club to get the job done – whether that be on the pitch, on in the transfer window. As reported by BBC and Leicester Mercury, the pieces have certainly fallen into place for Leicester City Football Club after they were able to confirm the signing of Youri Tielemans.

The fee is believed to be worth around £40 million, which would mark a club record for the Foxes. He will be signing on a four year deal from Monaco, after making quite the impression on loan with Leicester last season.

A huge statement

The club have been in the process of trying to get this deal done for longer than most fans can even remember, and there’s a reason for that: Tielemans is really, really good. He’s the kind of player that can completely turn the fortunes of any team around that are lucky enough to have him, and we believe the same can be said for Leicester – even though their fortunes recently have actually been looking pretty good.

“I really can’t wait to get started again with this club,” said Tielemans.

“I believe that we have the talent in our squad to achieve something special and for any player, that’s an exciting thing to be a part of.”

Leicester put in a strong shift to end last season, to the point where many fans considered them to be outside contenders to secure seventh place. That would’ve ensured their return to European football in the Europa League, but in the end, they finished down in ninth, just five points back from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“I’m delighted that Youri has chosen to be part of Leicester City’s journey,” said Rodgers. “It’s an incredibly exciting time for this football club and to be able to bring players of Youri’s quality here is an indication of the hunger for success we have.

“He’s already shown he’s capable of making an impact in the Premier League and he adds another option to an incredibly talented group of players here.”

Looking ahead

This is a really important step forward for a club that, in the last few years, have kind of just been treading water in the wake of their remarkable Premier League title triumph back in 2016. It’s always going to be difficult to try and replicate an accomplishment like that and we all know it, but now, it seems like they’re starting to get themselves back on track in a big way.

Rodgers has been questioned in the past in regards to his ability to manage at a high level, but at this moment in time, he seems to be the perfect fit. There’s a genuine enthusiasm around the club regarding what they could go on to accomplish in the next few years, which comes not too long after they were able to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

If they can keep the ball rolling and pick up a few more key signings in the transfer window, then big things could be on the horizon.
