Leicester City Push For Greatness After Everton Win

Leicester City have certainly faced adversity in the past, but this season, it’s almost felt like nothing has been able to stand in their way of surging towards the top two in the Premier League. Alas, as reported by BBC and The Guardian, they had to endure some pressure at the weekend as they just about managed to overcome Everton in a dramatic 2-1 win at King Power Stadium.

Richarlison fired the Toffees into an unlikely first half lead, and they were able to hold onto that until half way through the second half. Jamie Vardy popped up to carry on his phenomenal goalscoring form for the season, and then in the depths of injury time, Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winner to ensure that Leicester remain in the top two.

Making moves

“I thought we deserved it. It was difficult in the first half, they sat in but we tried to stay positive and play our offensive game. To come from behind as well demonstrates the quality and mindset of this team to keep going.

“In any good team you have to have that. The best teams have spirit. This is a team that is so strong together. Kelechi is a wonderful demonstration of someone who trains with a great attitude every day. They allow this team to develop to the level it has been at because they work hard in training.

“Momentum is really important. I’m just so happy to see the players have the patience and the belief that they can consistently get results. We found a way with quality and determination. It’s a very good win, now we have a big game again here on Wednesday.”

In regards to the links between him and Arsenal, it’s hard to tell whether or not there’s all too much in it. Obviously he’s proven in the past that loyalty isn’t too much of an issue, given that he left Celtic in the midst of their campaign in order to take on his current role with Leicester City.

The Rodgers query

The future isn’t necessarily certain for the Foxes, but one thing that simply cannot be denied is that Rodgers has done a phenomenal job with this squad.

It feels eerily similar to their title success a few years ago, although the one big stumbling block this time around is that Liverpool don’t appear to be showing any signs of slowing down. Whether or not they do isn’t their main concern at the moment, though, as fans wait to see if Arsenal make their move.

Leicester’s attention will now turn towards tomorrow evening as they go head to head with Watford.  With Liverpool hosting what seems to be a revived Everton side, there’s every possibility that Rodgers’ men could cut the deficit down to five or six points in the title race.

We always want to see teams rise up and challenge the hierarchy of the top six, and now, we’re very much at the stage where we aren’t even all too certain as to whether a ‘top six’ even exists in the traditional sense.
