Five Premier League Clubs Who Impressed Last Weekend

The Premier League has another set of fixtures in the books after a chaotic weekend of top flight action. While there may have been a few more postponements as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, that didn’t distract some clubs from putting their best foot forward in an attempt to make some gains.

Today, we’re going to run through five teams – in particular – who impressed us as we continue on through the second half of the campaign.

Norwich 2-1 Everton

Norwich are considered by the majority to be the worst team in the league this season and yet, that’s not how they performed against Everton. In fact, they actually managed to put up something resembling a pretty good fight.

The Canaries went toe to toe with Everton in a real battle of wits (and by that, we mean a relegation six-pointer). It was gritty but in the end, they got the win that really does help their fans believe a miracle is possible.

Aston Villa 2-2 Man United

Aston Villa may as well have been dead and buried with 20 minutes left to play at Villa Park on Saturday night. Manchester United had successfully managed to neutralise them and go 2-0 up but after one Philippe Coutinho substitution, things changed.

The Red Devils began to crumble and Villa took full advantage. They were fully deserving of the point and Steven Gerrard once again managed to prove why he’s the right man for the job in the second city.

Leeds 3-2 West Ham

Despite their best efforts, Leeds United just could not get rid of West Ham United for long periods of this game – but with his job potentially on the line, Marcelo Bielsa got his boys to dig deep and grind out a much-needed victory.

The Hammers’ top four hopes suffered a huge blow here but the bigger story, in our book, is that Leeds now have some genuine breathing space away from the ongoing debacle in the bottom four.

Wolves 3-1 Southampton

Wolverhampton Wanderers are now unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions and on Saturday, they really did earn their win with Coady, Traore and Jimenez all coming up with the goods.

Southampton did strike back with a wonder free-kick from James Ward-Prowse but this is a story about Wolves. They’re 8th in the league and right now, the top six is looking like a genuine possibility.

Liverpool 3-0 Brentford

Liverpool are still way off the pace in comparison to Manchester City in the Premier League title race and that disclaimer does need to be added. Still, after what happened when they played Brentford earlier on in the campaign, they would’ve been relieved to see a convincing scoreline here.

They put the Bees to the sword and in the process, they sent a message to Manchester City that they aren’t going to go quietly into the night. Instead, they’re going to fight tooth and nail until they can’t fight any longer – which says a lot about the mentality the Reds have as a squad.
