Five Premier League Clubs Who Impressed Last Week

The chaotic month of December is officially underway in the Premier League and there have already been plenty of noteworthy results to go around.

It’s the kind of period in which teams can either see their season flourish or fall flat on their face, which offers up plenty of questions to be answered in the January transfer window.

Today, after a double gameweek, we’re going to run through five teams who have really impressed over the course of the last seven days.

Aston Villa – 1-2 vs Man City, 2-1 vs Leicester

Aston Villa may have fallen to a loss against Manchester City during the week, but they weren’t about to lie down and be beaten. Instead, after going 2-0 down, they edged back to 2-1 and fought incredibly hard against the reigning English champions.

Then, when Leicester came to town, they also had to stage a fightback in order to be in with a chance of getting something from the game. The Foxes were off the pace, yes, but Villa made sure they didn’t take their foot off of their neck and that was nice to see.

Liverpool – 4-1 vs Everton, 1-0 vs Wolves

Liverpool are now the frontrunners to win the Premier League title, in our view, and this week proved why. They tore through local rivals Everton with ruthless efficiency and while it was expected, the gulf in quality was so unbelievably stark that it was, at times, painful to watch.

They did struggle against Wolverhampton Wanderers and for 90 minutes, they couldn’t break them down. Alas, they kept chipping away and chipping away and Divock Origi finally managed to blow the roof off of the away end in the final minutes at Molineux.

Man United – 3-2 vs Arsenal, 1-0 vs Crystal Palace

Ralf Ranginck isn’t superman and it’ll take time for him to settle into the role. Still, while he wasn’t the on the touchline, he was still there to see Michael Carrick mastermind a really fun 3-2 win over the Gunners on Thursday.

They experienced some hardships against Crystal Palace at the weekend too but that was to be expected. The real headline, in our view, was the clean sheet to go alongside a rare Fred winner.

Tottenham – 2-0 vs Brentford, 3-0 vs Norwich

Antonio Conte isn’t here to mess around – he’s here to make Tottenham Hotspur contenders again. They looked professional and composed against Brentford during the week and crucially, they secured a clean sheet.

They took that momentum through to the weekend against relegation-threatened Norwich City and even though the Canaries have been on a solid run as of late, Spurs made them look average with a comfortable 3-0 success.

Leeds – 1-0 vs Crystal Palace, 2-2 vs Brentford

Leeds United have faced a great deal of scrutiny so far this season but their late winner against Crystal Palace eased, ever so slightly, the growing pressure currently residing on the shoulders of Marcelo Bielsa.

Then, against Brentford, they managed to secure another decent result with a point that puts six points between themselves and the bottom three – which would’ve seemed outlandish a few weeks ago.
