Five Possible FA Cup Upsets This Weekend

Another international break has been and gone and while Premier League football isn’t quite set to return just yet, that doesn’t mean we’re going to be left without some great action over the course of the next few days.

Why? Because it’s time to get back up and running with the FA Cup! The world’s oldest club competition is heading into the fourth round and while there are some clear favourites in a few of the match-ups, there’s still a lot of excitement in the air.

Between non-league clubs and Premier League sides attempting to live up to their billing, there’s an awful lot to get through; and we’re going to do just that by combing through and picking out five upsets we genuinely think could come off.

Kidderminster vs West Ham

Kidderminster Harriers are in the sixth tier of English football’s pyramid system and yet, their win over Reading in the third round has led many to believe they could do something quite special this weekend.

They’ll be locking horns with a West Ham side who, realistically, could be in with a genuine chance of winning the whole thing – providing they can edge past this potential speed bump.

Coventry vs Southampton

Coventry City are having a solid season as they continue to build themselves back up as a legitimate threat in the Midlands landscape and in front of what they hope to be a lively crowd, they’ll back themselves in this tie.

Southampton are having another unremarkable campaign with a few nice results sprinkled in there for good measure, but they should see this as a big opportunity.

Cambridge vs Luton

Cambridge United pulled off the biggest upset of the third round when they were able to defeat Newcastle United, confirming that this is a team on the rise in the English game.

Luton Town will be confident in their ability to overcome the League One side but with a fifth round berth awaiting the victor, we can see this tie going through a variety of twists and turns – with plenty of goals thrown in there for good measure.

Nottingham Forest vs Leicester

An East Midlands derby is exactly what Nottingham Forest need to try and make sure their win over Arsenal, seen as a fluke by some, doesn’t go without a real push for Wembley.

Leicester City are the reigning champions in this competition but that doesn’t mean they should expect an easy pass. The atmosphere will be brutal, their own fans will be expectant, and they know this is their best chance of reaching Europe again.

Boreham Wood vs Bournemouth

Boreham Wood are a conference side which is immediately going to serve as a red flag for many, but a visit to take on the Cherries should fill them with hope as opposed to dread.

They’ve already come through a tough third round obstacle and they really don’t have anything to lose. Very few folks expect them to win, and we imagine that’s all the motivation they need.
